GNI proposes Ogun-Lagos border towns’ agency

A governorship aspirant on the platform of the African Democratic Congress in Ogun State, Mr. Gboyega Isiaka, has unfolded plans to develop the Ogun-Lagos border towns through a well-funded agency if elected governor in 2019.
Isiaka stated this in the Magboro community at an interactive session with major stakeholders in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State on Saturday.
The aspirant noted that studies had shown that the current Lagos population, which currently stands at 21 million, would double by 2034, and that the spillover effect would be felt more by Ogun State.
He explained that the proximity of Lagos to Ogun State had made many residents of the congested Nigeria’s economic capital to move over to the neighbouring state while the government had not done much to provide the necessary infrastructure in the contiguous communities.
He listed some of the major challenges confronting residents of the Ogun-Lagos border towns to include deplorable roads, lack of health facilities, schools, potable water and traffic congestion.
The ADC leader said he developed a model, tagged Ogun-Lagos border initiative, which he hoped to develop into a well-funded agency that would be solely responsible for the provision of amenities in the state.
He said, “We shall establish a special Border Towns Development Authority to purposely hasten a sustainable infrastructural and socio-economic development of the affected towns and villages.”
